Donating Household Items

Written by Laurie Palau. Posted in BLOG: A Life More Organized, Donations

I often times walk into people’s homes and find household items that are in excellent condition but are no longer being used, such as dishes, platters and silverware.  The first question I ask is: “why are you keeping this?” Occasionally I will get the answer “it belonged to my great-grandmother” or “it’s been in the family for generations”, but more often than not, the response is: “I just don’t want to throw it away” or “I don’t know what to do with it.”
What many people don’t realize is that there are several places that will accept household items. Keep in mind that every state has its own laws to follow, so be sure to check your state guidelines.
Below are some places in Bucks County, PA that will accept used household items:
·         Purple Heart*
·         A Woman’s Place (Full Circle Thrift Shop)
·         Goodwill
·         IMPACT Thrift Stores*
*denotes pick-up service
If you have no plans on using something again, there is always someone less fortunate who can.  Not only will it help you de-clutter, but you are giving something back to the community.
